Sunday i went from feeling very comfortable amongst my green trees, lovely rivers and clear skies THen BAM! All hell broke loose! Never have I experienced anything like the rain, thunder and lightning! It was literally right on top of us. The first sign was a huge lightning bolt that broke the skies wide open and the rain came pouring out. Lightning was striking all around us and Alison only had to count to 4 at the most before KABLAMM another one hit. Visability was near zero so we pulled over to the side of the road to wait it out. I kept thanking the Aveo for its rubber tires.
We had a lot of fun looking for our elk jerky, made a couple of unsuccessful stop-all out, sorry. Then we found a compound of sorts that had what we thought was elk in pens, turned out they were reindeer-they promised they didnt make jerky out of them. Alison thought the place looked a little sketchy, the type of place where they film the beginning of a slasher movie. I didnt get that vibe at all and the girl behind the counter was as sweet as pie. Speaking of pie - had excellent blueberry pie in Cortez the night before.
We are on another big push across Kansas today. Had to call Alison's friends in Peoria to let them know we were making better time than we thought.
Onward!!
